Singapore American School (SAS) Foundation received $3 million from Singapore business magnate and investor, Lim Kaling. The amount is the second largest gift in the school’s history.
SAS will use the gift to add faculty resources and develop the frameworks necessary for a fully personalised curriculum.
"This gift will be transformational for SAS to develop the most effective pedagogy in personalised learning, teaching practices, and support systems like facilities and technology while assembling the best educators in the world to teach, coach, and guide our students,” said SAS superintendent, Dr Chip Kimball.
Kimball added that SAS is thrilled to partner with Lim in the process.
Lim comes from a family with a long tradition of supporting education. Lim’s late father had served on many educational institutions and was president at Ngee Ann Kongsi, a charitable foundation that offers scholarships and bursaries to students.
Lim is also a founding investor at tech firms Razer Inc and Lucasfilm Animation Singapore.
"This gift affirms the belief that our people are our single greatest asset. For us to provide deep and meaningful learning to every student, in every classroom, we need to continually invest in our staff and provide them with incredible resources," said Sarah Morris, chief advancement officer at SAS.
"Mr Lim's generous donation will also enable the school to bridge its current instructional practices while serving as a template for schools around the world, as lessons learned from SAS inform practices for other schools."
The SAS Foundation is key to the school's commitment to innovation in learning. It also provides support for arts and athletic activities at SAS, as well as the popular academic visitors-in-residence program.Related stories:
