Malaysia declares additional public holidays

Malaysia’s government today declared additional public holidays for Thursday (10 May) and Friday (11 May).

This follows the “special event holiday” for schools on Wednesday (9 May) when schools were used as polling stations for the country’s 14th general election.

The public holiday declaration was made by chief secretary to the government Tan Sri Dr Ali Hamsa, and will affect all states in peninsular Malaysia and Labuan territory.

“For states that observe Friday and Saturday as their weekend, Sunday, 13 May will be the replacement public holiday,” added Ali Hamsa in a statement.

For Sabah and Sarawak, the state governments have declared the public holidays as well.
