Calum Drummond was appointed an officer of the Order of Australia in the Queen’s 2019 birthday honours list for his outstanding work in the field of science and innovation. He was recognised for his distinguished service to chemistry and materials science research, commercialisation initiatives, and his contribution as a leader and mentor. Drummond's research has identified many organic molecules capable of self-assembling in solvents to form materials with highly ordered 2D and 3D internal nanostructures, many of which have been used to enhance products from drug delivery vehicles to waterproof recyclable paper.
