Damen has emerged as a leader in the academic governance field and is a trusted advisor regarding the business of student administration at RMIT University. In 2018, Damen worked with the Academic Registrar and senior members of the RMIT University learning and teaching community to revamp academic quality assurance processes at RMIT through the development the Academic Governance and Quality Framework. This framework included processes for managing the lifecycle and quality of academic programs across higher education and vocational education. Since March 2019, Damen has been serving on Project Pi which is focussed on replacing our legacy HR and Finance systems. He has served as the student Subject Matter Expert for the project, providing advice to the streams (HR, Finance, Services) in terms of processes, systems and where these will have impacts on the student experience. In addition to Damen’s work in the academic governance and systems spaces, he has been an advocate for reconciliation at RMIT. Serving as a Reconciliation Champion for the Education and Operations Portfolios, he has encouraged business and project teams alike to engage with reconciliation and ensure that RMIT’s work has Indigenous staff and students as a key consideration.
