Ministry investigates fatal accident in school

The Ministry of Education has established a special internal investigation committee for a case where a 14-year-old student was killed in a freak accident at a secondary school in west Malaysia.

A tractor was cutting grass at the school in Negeri Sembilan while students were having march-past rehearsals on Tuesday morning.

"When the tractor stopped, a loud noise was heard by all the students involved in the rehearsal," said the ministry in a statement.

The victim was identified as a Form 2 (Year 9) student who died of head injuries. Two other students, one in Form 2 and another in Form 1, were also injured and treated at a health clinic.

The ministry said the investigation committee will be chaired by the state’s education director to identify the cause of the incident, reported The Star.

"The Education Ministry expressed sadness, sympathy and regret over the incident and condolences to the family of the students involved,” said the ministry.

"The Education Ministry also seeks the cooperation of all parties to stop the dissemination of information about this incident out of respect for the feelings of the families involved, teachers and other students at the school."
