Teachers gear up to reimagine learning at CanvasCon

In a profession where change is the only constant, standing still simply isn’t an option—and for teachers, that’s never been truer.

As emerging technologies continue to reshape how students absorb, process and respond to information, educators are finding themselves at a pivotal crossroads. The rapid ascent of artificial intelligence and machine learning is not just altering the tools of teaching – it’s redrawing the boundaries of what’s possible in the classroom.

From streamlining administrative grunt work to crafting personalised lesson plans and offering real-time analytics on student performance, AI is fast becoming an indispensable teaching partner. But while the promise is immense, tapping into that potential requires more than curiosity. It calls for the right mix of hands-on support, proven strategies and a professional development ecosystem that speaks directly to what teachers need now.

One event that aims to equip educators with cutting-edge professional development is CanvasCon 2025, being held in Adelaide on 18-19 August.

“Keeping pace with change in education isn’t easy. New tools are available, learner expectations are shifting, and time is always in short supply. CanvasCon ANZ is a 1.5 day conference designed to help,” Harrison Kelly, Managing Director, APAC at Instructure told The Educator.

“We bring together educators, administrators, and institutional leaders from across Australia and New Zealand to connect, share ideas, and explore what’s working in today’s learning environments.”

Kelly said the event includes dedicated tracks tailored to teachers’ roles and goals, so every session feels directly relevant to their work.

“You’ll hear from peers facing similar challenges, gain fresh ideas, and walk away with practical strategies you can apply right away,” Kelly said. “There’s also time built in for hands-on learning, networking, and discussion.”

Kelly said whether attendees are new to Canvas or experienced in the platform, the focus is on real-world insight.

“[CanvasCon] looks not just at what is changing in education, but how others are responding and adapting,” said Kelly. “If your institution is doing something innovative or impactful, CanvasCon ANZ is also a platform to share your work and help shape the regional conversation.”
