Former teachers across Victoria are finding renewed confidence to return to the classroom, thanks to targeted professional development delivered by Seven Steps to Writing Success.
Returning teachers – qualified educators who have taken time away from the profession and are now preparing to re-enter the workforce – often bring valuable experience but may need support to update their skills and rebuild confidence. To meet this need, more than 350 teachers have accessed free training, on-demand resources and practical tools. These are designed to refresh their teaching skills and provide ready-to-use strategies for teaching writing – one of the most challenging areas of the curriculum.
With over 20 years of experience supporting teachers in writing instruction, Seven Steps brings proven expertise to help returners step back into the classroom with confidence. Their evidence-based approach breaks writing down into clear, teachable chunks, making it easier for teachers to plan lessons, build student engagement and see real progress.
As Lynette, a returning teacher, shared: “I am absolutely delighted. It is excellent material, not just for returning teachers, but for beginning teachers and the teachers in the profession now who could all do with that material.”
Leanne, another participant, highlighted the immediate applicability of the training: “And so you’re walking away [from the workshop] with skills. You’re not just walking away with theory, but you’re walking away with things that you can immediately do with a group of children.”
At a time when schools across the state are facing staffing challenges, this professional development is helping experienced educators reconnect with their profession and rediscover their passion. High-quality, focused training has proven key – not only to brush up on curriculum changes and new strategies, but to help returners feel like teachers again.
The support provided by Seven Steps focuses on:
• breaking down writing into simple, teachable chunks
• building teacher confidence
• providing ready-to-go teaching resources and a clear plan for writing
• boosting student engagement
With strong uptake and positive feedback, the program is proving that the right support can turn skilled professionals back into passionate educators – just when schools need them most.
