INABURRA SCHOOL
Bangor, NSW

Innovations at Inaburra have impacted on its pedagogy, built environment, the curriculum, and use of ICT for learning. With respect to its pedagogy, the school has developed and is now implementing a school-wide design approach to teaching and learning. That shared framework was created through an iterative design process.

Since its inception in 1982, Inaburra has earnt a reputation as an innovative school not only in its use of computer technology but also on how it has integrated with other subject areas such as software and design and media studies. Inaburra’s innovative Bring Your Own Technology (BYOT) program seeks to integrate student learning in the classroom with learning at home. It does so by encouraging students in Years 5-12 to use their own device to undertake creative learning and submit work online. In the more Junior years students taught the basics of programming, use Chromebooks in their learning and become well versed in Google Hangouts. This technology has also been used to allow Junior students to interact with students in various classrooms around the world.

Inaburra attempts to ground a student’s ICT use in line with school values and thus guides students in the responsible use of technology. The school also ensures that balance is maintained in the use of technology by integrating it into the wider context of student learning. Inaburra has been recognised as an exemplar school through its innovative approach to teaching and learning.
