Private school probes alleged financial misconduct

The head of fundraising at Sydney’s Saint Ignatius' College Riverview has been fired for alleged “admissions of financial misconduct”, prompting the school to conduct its own investigation into the matter.

Yesterday, the school’s acting principal, rector and board chairman sent an email announcing the development to the parent community.

“We have recently dismissed the director of advancement following admissions of financial misconduct,” the email stated.

“The college has reported these matters to the police and we have also launched our own investigation.”

The acting principal went on to say that while further details couldn’t be disclosed due to the ongoing investigation, the admissions made relate to “specific financial transactions”.

According to the latest MySchool data, the school – which is charging $28,200 for Year 11 and 12 students this year – raised a total of $43.1m from fees, contributions and other private sources. It has received additional funding of $8.2m from the NSW and federal governments in 2016.

The Educator has contacted Saint Ignatius' College Riverview for comment.
