Shaping the future of sustainability – with Carmelo Fedele of International Grammar School

In this edition of The Educator TV, we sat down with Carmelo Fedele, Head of Sustainability at International Grammar School. IGS was awarded as one of the winners for The Educator 5-Star Sustainable Programs for 2023, recognized for its broad scope of sustainability initiatives and hands-on approach to guiding students.

Under Fedele’s guidance, IGS has fostered a proactive approach to sustainability, encompassing a broad scope of topics such as climate change, biodiversity, resource management, and social justice. The school founded its student-led organisation “Sustainable Futures Group,” designed to engage students directly in environmentalism initiatives, cultivating a strong culture of sustainability within the school community.

Fedele underlined the serious nature of sustainability, stating: "Sustainability is about the future... the ultimate social justice issue".

Fedele’s dedication to integrating sustainability into the educational framework ensures that students carry forward a commitment to environmental leadership beyond their school experience.
