Revealed: The best educators in Australia in 2023

Despite major challenges confronting Australia's schools, including crippling teacher shortages, a worsening youth mental health crisis, and the complexities of sweeping curriculum reforms, educators across the country are not only persevering but innovating.

The Educator’s Hot List 2023 – in partnership with the Positive Education Schools Association (PESA) – shines a light on those raising the bar and implementing new initiatives to drive improvements across Australia’s education sector. Their achievements span creating new curriculums, mentoring colleagues, ingenious teaching techniques and developing digital tools.

All of 2023’s cohort have been successful in these areas but most importantly they are improving the status quo for Australia’s students.

To identify those who have been at the cutting edge of this noble cause over the past 12 months, The Educator asked schools to submit nominations for our ninth annual Hot List between July and August this year.

After receiving hundreds of nominations, The Educator began the arduous task of evaluating each nominee based on the overall impact of their work in the K-12 education sector over the past 12 months, demonstrating expertise in linking theory and practice, and designing and implementing innovations that provide students with high-quality educational experiences during these unprecedented times.

In the end, 50 Hot List nominees stood out from the rest as shining examples of educational excellence in action.

Some of those who made the list include Adrian Camm - Westbourne Grammar School, Anne Johnstone - Ravenswood School for Girls, Shane Wilson - Marble Bar Primary School, Therese Turner-Jones – Wenona School, Kerri Buttery - Digital Literacy Licence, Adam Mostogl - Illuminate Education Australia, Helen Jamieson - Corinda State High School, Rochelle Borton - EduInfluencers, Antonella Rosati - Siena College and Carla Pantano - Bellbird Park State Secondary College.
